 14 YEARS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since 1993, WSS has raised almost $756,000, used to fund the following projects:

= Ordaining 35 Priests by July 2008 Thorough our financial support..

= Construction of the Holy Spirit Seminary in Morogoro, Tanzania.

= Construction of the Bendel Memorial Secondary School in Moshi.

= Construction of a well in Moshi, Tanzania.

= Provided funding for the Apostolic Life Community of Sisters.

= Provided basic funding for newly ordained priests.

= Assisted with the placement of new ALCP priests in Florida and Idaho.

Twenty-four ALCP priests from Africa and India are currently serving in California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Oregon, Rhode island, Tennessee and Utah. Many of their parishes would have closed without their ministry.

FUTURE FUNDING PLANS

Annual Seminarian Support

The Board of Directors of Worldwide Seminarian Support plans to establish a funding base to sustain seminarian support at a substantially expanded level within three years. The current one-year cost to support a seminarian is $2000, or $167 per month.

WSS has worked to develop relationships with agencies, organizations and individuals that have similar goals and to strengthen relationships currently in place, such as parishes, Knights of Columbus chapters, foundations, and individuals.

Seminary Building Fund

During 1999, the Apostolic Life Community of Priests began construction of a new seminary building. The seminary is nearly 60% complete, and when complete, will enable ALCP to increase its annual acceptance rate of 10 to 12 new seminarians per year. ALCP receives as many as 200 applications to the seminary each year, but because of the lack of funding and space, their ability to satisfy all these potential vocations is severely limited. The explosive growth of the Catholic Church in Africa has necessitated construction of this new seminary, which will house 78 men studying for the priesthood.

With funds already raised by ALCP and WSS, the seminary housing can now accommodate 33 seminarians, some living three per small room. This year we hope to raise funds to complete the second of three phases of construction, including a large dining hall, kitchen and storage, two large common rooms, a laundry room, restrooms, and 15 more bedrooms. To complete this phase, ALCP also needs funds for essential items and equipment, such as a large stove, two deep fryers, two refrigerators, wash-basins, door locks, electrical supplies, beds and mattresses. The estimated cost to completely finish and furnish this phase of the seminary is $50,000.

The final phase of construction will be the completion of the Chapel. The estimated cost is $58,000.  In addition to the structure itself, the chapel must be fitted out with an altar, chalices, altar clothes, priests’ vest-ments, etc.

Transportation

The seminary is badly in need of a truck that will help supply the community and enable it to achieve its goal of being self-sustaining. The estimated cost for a single truck is $25,000.

Accomplishment By the board members

Kevin Flinn donated, installed and landscaped (with Jason Turk’s help) around a statue of Mary at the front entrance to St. Mary’s Hospital. A plaque will be placed with the statue at a ceremonial blessing. The plague will read "My Soul Doeth Magnify the Lord" and "Donated by Knights of Columbus Chapter 2075 and Worldwide Seminarian Support".
